Martin Kalmes, 76, of 602 Ridge Road, Wilmette, former captain in the Wilmette Fire Department died December 5 in St. Francis Hospital, Evanston. Previous to becoming a regular fireman, Mr. Kalmes was employed by the former J. A. Hoth Ice Company in Wilmette. Born in Niles Center (now Skokie), he had lived in the village since 1903. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery in West Lake Forest. Survivors include three sons, Nicholas M. at home, and John T. and Frank A., both of Phoenix, Ariz.; four daughters, Kathleen A. at home, Mrs. Margaret Jacobson of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Helen Wagner of Phoenix, and Mrs. Elizabeth Dye of Chicago; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchldren.
