Margaret Hoffmann Higgins, 84, died Sept. 22 [1985] after suffering a heart attack while traveling to visit her brother, James Hoffmann of Olney, Ill. [Illinois] One of the last survivors of the pioneer Hubert Hoffmann family of Wilmette, Mrs. Higgins was the fourth Hoffmann generation still living on some of the 100 acres originally pioneered in Gross Point, now Wilmette, by Bartholomew Hoffmann when he arrived from Trier, Germany in 1844. Her maternal grandmother was the Baroness Emma von Gruger, born in the Royal House of Schleswig Holstein. Her father, Hubert Hoffmann, founded Hubert Hoffmann and Sons Greenhouses in 1908. Her husband, the late Howard Higgins, was a member of the pioneer Happ and Emerson families. Mrs. Higgins is survived by a daughter, Shirley Rose; a son, James; and her brother, James. Visitation is at Hubert Hoffmann Florist, 204 Ridge Rd., Wilmette. Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
