Child is killed near home when struck by auto [Jeanne Nauman]

Jeanne Nauman, seven year old daughter of Daniel L. Nauman, an industrial engineer, living at 215 Fifth street, Wilmette, was fatally injured Tuesday evening when struck by a car driven by Miss Gertrude Hammes, 17, of 422 Linden avenue, while playing in front of her home.

Miss Hammes, who is a student at the Marywood school in Evanston, was released by Justice of the Peace Daniel M. Mickey under $1,000 bonds on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The inquest was set for Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, but the case was continued.

According to Miss Hammes, the Nauman girl ran out from behind a parked car into the path of the moving automobile, and the driver was unable to stop in time to avoid the tragedy. The child was rushed to the Evanston hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Jack Kalkhurst, 2756 Euclid Park place, Evanston, owner of the car Miss Hammes was driving, and Georgia Marshall, a passenger, were not held by the police.
