Howard Bowen dies; prominent architect and building expert

Howard Bowen, Wilmette building commissioner and prominent north shore architect, died Thursday night, December 12, at the age of 58 years. He had served Wilmette as building commissioner from May, 1927, to the time of his death. Heart trouble was the cause of Mr. Bowen's death. He had been ill for the past year.

Mr. Bowen was the architect for the Wilmette Baptist church. The greater part of his architectural work has been done on north shore homes during the past twenty-five years. He drew the plans for the recently completed Chimneys, the modern store and apartment building on Center street near Winnetka avenue in Indian Hill. His offices were at 549 W. Washington boulevard, Chicago.

Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Grace B. Bowen, and one son, Harvey N. Bowen, 1096 Ash street, Winnetka. The funeral services were held t the Wilmette Baptist church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. George D. Allison, pastor, officiating. Wilmette village officials attended in a body. Burial took place at Graceland cemetery.
