Hold last rites for C. S. Quinlan, local real estate dealer

Last rites were held yesterday afternoon for Charles Shepard Quinlan, veteran real estate dealer of the firm of Quinlan and Tyson, who died Tuesday morning at St. Francis hospital following an illness of several months. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.

Mr. Quinlan had resided in Evanston for 54 years, the greater number of which were spent in the real estate business. He was 71 years old. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Florence H. Quinlan, and two brothers, John H., of New York and Ralph H., of Pasadena, Cal.

Mr. Quinlan moved to Evanston in 1873 following the Chicago fire which destroyed his parents' home. The Quinlan homestead was located at 331 Davis street. It was not until 1880 that he started in the business which was to later bring him considerable fame throughout Chicago and the north shore. His first connection with the business was as director of the renting department. Later he entered the firm of Rose, Barry and Quinlan of Chicago.

The firm of Quinlan and Tyson was later formed and in 1895 the company moved to 526 Davis street, Evanston. For ten years they occupied quarters at 701 Davis street, recently moving to 1571 Sherman avenue. Mr. Quinlan was a member of the Chicago and Evanston real estate boards and the chambers of commerce of both cities.
