Wife of Wilmette policeman taken by death Monday [Mrs. Joseph Schmidt]

Mrs. Joseph Schmidt, wife of Patrolman Joseph Schmidt of the Wilmette Police department, died Monday of this week following an operation for appendicitis. Funeral services were held Wednesday, from the home of her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Mathias P. Borre, 535 Park avenue, the Rev. Father Neuman of St. Joseph’s church officiating, and burial being at St. Joseph’s cemetery. The remains were escorted to the cemetery by the Wilmette Catholic Daughters of America, of which she was a member, and was met at the cemetery by members of the St. Marys society , of which she was also a member. Six members of the Wilmette police force acted as pall bearers. They were Lieut. Albert Borre, Sergt. Joseph Steffens, Patrolman Jack Schaefgen and William Kreul and Motorcycle Policemen George and Peter Schaefer.

Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her husband, an infant daughter, Muriel Ann, her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Mathias P. Borre, her grandmother, one sister and four brothers, all of Wilmette. Mrs. Schmidt had been improving following the operation and was thought to be on the road to recovery when complications set in, resulting in her death.
