Miss Hattie C. Brooks, one of the charter members of the Wilmette Congregational church, passed away at her home, 922 Forest avenue, on Sunday, November 13. Funeral services were conducted from the Congregational church the following day, Dr. Stephen A. Lloyd officiating, and the remains were taken to Middleburg, Vermont, for interment.
Miss Brooks had resided in Wilmette for over 60 years, having moved here with her parents from Middleburg when but a child. As a girl she attended the Milwaukee-Downer college in Milwaukee, Wis., returning to Wilmette upon graduation and taking up her home with her parents. More recently she had lived at the old family homestead with her brother and upon the death of him and his wife had continued her residence there.
She was, as has been stated, a charter member of the Congregational church and was the only living resident charter member at the time of her death. Her circle of friendship was very extensive and she was noted for her very quick wit and quiet humor. She leaves no mere relatives, all members of her immediate family having preceded her in death.- Featured Link
