Charles R. Erwin of Kenilworth is summoned by death

Charles R. Erwin, of Kenilworth, president of the board of Erwin Wasey and company, of Chicago, one of the outstanding advertising agencies of the world, passed away Tuesday, afternoon, December 14, at his winter home in Winter Haven, Fla. For some weeks he had been suffering from an acute condition of the heart to which he succombed [sic] on Tuesday. He was 67 years old and had been engaged in advertising work more than forty years, and was one of the most widely known men in this connection in the United States.

Mr. Erwin was at one time president of the Lord and Thomas advertising company, from which position he retired in 1913, but again returned to this occupation in 1915 when the present company, Erwin, Walsey and company, was formed. In 1919 a branch office was opened in London, the first of its type to be introduced into England. Since that time additional offices have been opened in a number of other European centers. He was one of the organizers of the American Association of Advertising agencies and was chairman of that organizations finance committee. He was also one of the first men to be given charge of a million dollar advertising appropriation.

Mr. Erwin was a member of the North Shore Golf club, the Chicago Athletic association, the Racquet club, the Chicago club, the Knollwood Golf club, the Lake Shore Athletic club, and the Akron, Ohio, City club. He was born in Chicago in about 1859 and is survided [sic] by his widow, a son, Charles Ward Erwin, of Oak Park, a sister, Mrs. F. E. Crawford of Winnetka, and eight daughters, Misses Charlotte and Barbara of Kenilworth; Miss Rachel of White Plains, N. Y.; Mrs. A. M. Lewis of Detroit; Mrs. S. H. Crounse of Madison, Wis.; Ms. R. H. McKinney of Great Neck, New York; Mrs. C. E. Worsfold of Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. G. W. Folds of Sioux Falls, S. D. An elder son, Roswell, died at Winter Haven about three years ago.
