- Don R. Derning, Sr., 78, a resident of Winnetka, died Feb. 25 in Evanston Hospital. Mr. Derning was born Sept. 13, 1925 in Chicago. Survivors include his wife, Fern Derning (nee Ailsworth); three daughters, Denise (Paul) Smith of Portland, Maine, April (J.D.) Delancy of Washington, D.C., and Dayle (Bill) Nervig of Omaha, Neb.; one son, Don Derning, Jr. of Wheeling; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jay Derning and Ed Derning.
