Services for John A. Hoffmann, 79, pioneer resident of Wilmette, who died suddenly January 4 in his home at 1922 Wilmette Avenue, were held Monday morning in St. Joseph's church, with burial following in Memorial Park. He was the son of the late John and Margaret Hoffmann. John A. and his brother Phillip bought the old Westerfield Coal company, which, with the subsequent purchase of the insolvent Wilmette Lumber company the following year, evolved into the Hoffmann Brothers Coal and Lumber Company, 1208 Central Avenue. Mr. Hoffmann was married on January 10, 1899 to the former Anna Lauermann. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hoffmann leaves 3 son. John, Phillip and Joseph; 3 daughters, the Misses Mary, Elizabeth and Ann Hoffmann; a sister, Mrs. Paul Bleser of 729 Ridge Road; and 5 grandchildren.
