Find body of youth near drowning scene [Richard Brooks]

Just one day short of a week after he had been drowned in an attempt to swim ashore from an overturned canoe off the southern limits of Kenilworth, the body of Richard Brooks, 15 years old, 669 Wrightwood avenue, Chicago, was found on the beach early last Saturday morning, a block and a half south of the scene of the tragedy.

A resident of the neighborhood noticed the body and notified the Wilmette Police, Chief Henry Brautigam and Sergt. Joseph Steffens responding and taking the body to the Frederick E. Lewis Funeral Home, 1120 Central avenue, where an inquest was held Saturday afternoon.

The coroner's jury returned a verdict of accidental death by drowning to Deputy Coroner Charles W. Nelson, who conducted the inquest. At the time of the accident Motorcycle Policeman George Schaefer led three other men in a daring rescue of Edward Reder, 2335 Larrabee street and James Minogue, 438 Belden avenue, Chicago, companions of the drowned youth.
