- A memorial service for the Rev. C. David Owens, a resident of Evanston for 10 years, is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 3 at First Congregational Church of Wilmette, 1125 Wilmette Ave., Wilmette. The Rev. Owens, a former resident of St. Anne., Ill., Homewood and Flossmor, died Dec. 19 at Evanston Hospital. He was 56.
He was born Jan. 2, 1947, in Coalgood, Kentucky. His mother is Barbara (Gooch) Owens of Bradley, Ill. Mr. Owens spent the last decade as senior pastor of First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Wilmette. Over the course of four years, Mr. Owens and Rabbi Stuart Alschuler, formerly of Congregation Beth Hillel in Wilmette, preached and taught in one another's congregations. In 1997, Mr. Owens guided his parish in the establishment of a space-sharing and educational partnership with Congregation Sukkat Shalom, which continues today. In addition to his mother, survivors include his former wife, Beverly (Barwegen) Owens of Evanston; son Charles B. of Evanston; daughter Hilary O. (Nick) Limber of Alsip; two grandchildren; sister Ann Schroeder of Bourbonnais; and brother Doyle (Jackie) of St. Anne, Ill.
