- Winnetka's Christ Church was built as a memorial to a young mother, Emilie Hoyt Fox, and her three children who perished in the Iroquois Theater fire December 30, 1903. The church, designed by Winnetka architect William A. Otis, was built by her parents William M. Hoyt and Emilie Landon Hoyt. Two other parisioners , Linda Bolte, 14, and Roger Higginson, 10, also died in the fire, but are not mentioned on any of the church's plaques. Comments by altar guild director, Jane Whitesides, and rector, Rev. Edward S. Prevost.
