- James E. Masterson, founder and president of Hackney's on Lake Inc., died May 21 in Glenbrook Hospital, Glenview. He was 71. Obituary includes a brief history of the chain of Hackney's restaurants. He was a native Chicagoan. Surviving Mr. Masterson are his wife, Marcella; seven children: James E. Jr. of Wheeling, Edward of North Barrington, Michael of Palos Park, Elizabeth Hebson, Mary Welch, Jane Blair and Sara Landri, all four of Glenview; a brother, Frank Engels of Connecticut; and 18 grandchldren. A funeral mass was officiated by the Rev. Myles P. McDonnell Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Glenview. Interment was in All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
