- James A. Hughes Sr., 79, died July 8 at Evanston Hospital. Mr. Hughes was born in Butler, Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Helen E. Hughes, were residents of Wilmette for 47 years. He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Helen Mayer of Northbrook; his sons, James A. Hughes Jr. of Wilmette and John Hughes of Lake Bluff; eight grandchildren; and his sister, Esther Pollock of Pennsylvania.
