- Richard Robert "Dick" Newman, 93, formerly of Wilmette, died February 15, 2002 in Evanston. Born July 8, 1908 in Utica, N.Y., the son of Richard Ernest and Mary Elizabeth Griffiths Newman. Married Helen Elizabeth Smith in West Hartford, Conn., March 6, 1937. Preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alice Newman. Survivors include his wife, Helen Elizabeth Newman of Evanston; two daughters, Cheryl (Walter) Vossel of Evanston, James Clark of Columbia, S.C., and Joan (Charles) Clark of Ponca City, Okla.; four grandchildren, William and Sarah Vossel of Evanston, and Catherine Bonnenson of Wichita, Kansas; and one sister, Helen O'Brien of Lake Mary, Florida
