Fischer, Elizabeth (Died)

Elizabeth Fischer, resident of the north shore for 73 years, passed away Thursday, January 21, at her home, 1600 Wilmette avenue. after an illness of about a week. Mrs. Fischer who has more than 100 descendants in this vicinity, recently attended the Golden Wedding anniversary of her neighbors and kin, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Steffens, and the excitement attendant upon that event was thought to have hastened her death. Services were held at St. Joseph's church at 9 o'clock Monday morning, January 25, and burial was at St.Joseph's. Services for another pioneer woman of this section, Mrs. Margarite Hansen, a native of Winnetka, who was a close friend of Mrs. Fischer, and who passed away last Friday, were also held Monday morning from St. Joseph's, with burial at St. Joseph's. Mrs. Fischer was born in Germany in 1835 and came to America in 1853, making her home in Wilmette where she has lived continuously on Wilmette avenue since that time. She is survived by five children, her husband and four children having preceded her in death. Other descendants include 35 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Mrs. Hansen, who was born in Winnetka in 1843, is survived by five children, 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
