- Brek Peterson of Wilmette helped found a local charity group to house newly homeless families. Peterson is president of the Family Promise Chicago North Shore, part of the larger non-profit Family Promise national organization. The group comprises congregations that house and feed needy families. List of congregations. Patritipating groups rotate to help feed the families and at night, their buildings are used as temporary homes. The organization can transport and house 14 people at a time. During the day the families are taken to the Family Promise Center in Evanston. The group focuses on newly homeless families as their situations are often different than those of the chronically homeless.
