Contracts were awarded Jun 1 in the [Glencoe] board of local improvements meeting for special assessment work to William Davidson of Wilmette for constructing a sewer system in Sheridan Road. Dalton Bros. Wilmette, won the contract for laying water main in Sylvan and Meadow roads. Waukegan Improvement company won the contract for the paving of Sylvan and Meadow roads. Business at the [Glencoe] Board of Trustees' meeting included discussion of laying sidewalk on the east side of Sheridan Road near Melville E. Stone's residence. Considering the demand comes from non-residents and non-taxpayers, the board is not very interested. Ordinance passed vacating "Grace Avenue" to shorten the way for Longwood avenue residents to get to the Chicago & North Western railroad. About 25 years ago Mr. Thomas Allen and Mrs. Irene Safford, sued in chancery and got a decree vacating the spot. Mr. Bruce McLeish brought up the matter of a village wagon scale. Mr. W.J. Walter had obtained permission for a street scale in front of his place of business.
