Twenty-two men out of a crew of twenty-seven of the freighter Florence of the Furness line drowned when the steamer which had lost its bearings in a fog was driven aground off St. Shott's Newfoundland. The Florence left Halifax several days ago and was proceeding to St. Johns with a general cargo. The Florence was a British steamship built in 1889 at Sunderland.
