- Edwin Philbrook Phelps Sr., the last surviving founder of the original Wilmette Baptist Church, died Apr. 26 at the age of 86. Mr. Phelps and his wife Vernette, lived for 61 years at 260 Wood Ct., Wilmette. In addition to his widow, Mr. Phelps is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lois M. Johnson, Kalamazoo, Mich.; Mrs. Ora P. Butow, Northbrook; Ruth V. Phelps, Jackson, Mich.; and Mrs. Gladys P. Ragona, Brookfield; a son, Edwin P. Phelps Jr., Altadena, Cal.; 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
