Alderman Sam Topliff of the Railway Committee of the Evanston Council announced that new cars of the Evanston Railway Company will be delivered on May 1. There will be 10 cars. The cars will be all steel except for wooden roofs and floors. Mr. M. Kreber, Superintendent of the Evanston Railway Company had sent Topliff a letter informing him of this. When this was reported at a meeting, Alderman Carter questionned whether the new wider cars would be safe. The Railway Committee will report on this at the next council meeting. Charles Speed, construction director for the Railways Company commented about the width of the cars. Over $100,000 has been spent by the company's new owners in rehabilitating the railroad. Kreber said the new cars would be stored and maintained at an Evanston location, instead of the Chicago Railways Company's station. The cars will have modern heating and ventilation. Each car will have 2 motors furnished by the Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company of Pittsburgh. The new Railway station and office building are under construction at the corner of Central Street and Bryant Avenue. The article describes features of these in depth.
