- Cold weather (6.7 degrees below 0) caught some Evanstonians by surprise. 15 families are in need of assistance. Poor people were particularly affected. Riders of streetcars complained of 35 degree temperatures. Consumers company is making 50 pounds of coal available daily to families recommended by doctors, ministers and anyone else in public life. Central Association of Evanston Charities is helping the poor. The Evanston Poormaster, Matthew Larkin, resigned from his position because of a conflict regarding his work.
