In order that the citizens of Evanston might be able to enjoy band concerts during July and August the city council, in tis meeting last night, referred the matter of lighting the new bandstand in Lake Front Park to the lighting committee with power to act. It is thought the committee will order the lights installed, as the solons voted that not more than $150 be used to cover necessary expenses.
The Mason Park band is willing to give concerts if a suitable place can be secured. When the Evanston Commercial association heard this a commmunication was written and sent to the council last night advocating speedy and favorable action on installing lights in the bandstand. The prospect of concerts is very bright.Alderman Hinckley presented an ordinance which greatly lowers the expense of having electric signs inspected. The old ordinance's rates were so high many merchants complained. The new ordinance repeals certain sections of the old one. The alderman were unanimously in favor of the ordinance.
Hoping to save much time and labor on the part of some of ht ecity's clerical force, a resolution was passed which allows the heads of the public works, health and fire departments a monthly incidental cash expense account. The public works department is to receive $25 per month and the other two $10 per month. A monthly report will be made by each department.
The Y.M.C.A. was given permission by the council to hold religious meetings in Lake Front Park SUnday afternoons during July and August.
\Charles H. Cowper was reappointed member of the civil service commisison by Mayor Paden, and the council confirmed the appointment. The council also confirmed the mayor's appointment of A. R. Burgeson as special policeman.- Featured Link
