Fire, starting in the basement of the building, early Monday morning completely destroyed the home of F. E. Nellis, Jr., 529 Abbottsford road, Kenilworth. Damage was estimated by Chief of Police Patrick J. Murray at approximately 425,000. The Kenilworth fire department, under direction of Chief Murray, was summoned to the scene of the fire at 7:30 o'clock Monday morning. Shortly after the Wilmette department was called into action. Together the departments fought the blaze throughout the day. The fire was not wholly extinguished until 5 o'clock in the afternoon. The Winnetka department was called to the scene late in the day, but was not put into action. Mr. Nellis was called from his Chicago office shortly after the report of the fire. Other members of the family are in California. The blaze at the Nellis home marked the first fire in Kenilworth in four years, according to Chief Murray.
