Mrs. Frank D. McPhelim of Harlingen, Tex., formerly of 1630 Highland avenue (sic), Wilmette, received word from the War department that her son, 2nd Lt. William Dayton Durham, had been killed on October 24, 1944, when a boat transporting American prisoners of the Japanese from the Philippines was sunk by an American submarine. He is survived by his mother Mrs. Frank McPhelim, two sisters, Miss Anna Durham, who is now working at the Naval Auxiliary Air Station in Kingsville, and Mrs. Dorothy Durham Snell of San Marcos; a brother, John L. Durham recently honorably discharged from the Air Corps and his grandmother, Mrs. J. M. Longfellow of Harlingen.
