The defending state champions will conclude the regular season next week with games against Antioch and Oak Park-River Forest. Coach Stephanie Nykaza's team hasn't lost to an in-state opponent this season. Team members mentioned include Allison Hackett, Kit Dauten and Kendall Cooper, Katie McMahon and Diana Vesselinovitch.
Swimming
Samantha James and Morgan Scott placed 1-3 in the 100-yard backstroke and Scott also added a second in the 200 freestyle (1:57.59) as the Trevians won a 131-55 victory in their pool. Maddy Urban won both the 50 freestyle (24.41) and 100 freestyle (53.17) for the Trevs, who also counted first place efforts from diver McKenzie Murdoch (218.60 points), Caroline Conklin (1:11.15, 100 breaststroke,; 2:13.20, 200 IM) and Liz Stein (5:13.41, 500 freestyle). On Friday, New Trier won over Niles West 141-44 with wins in every event.
Volleyball
New Trier's volleyball team remained tied for the CSL South lead with a 25-17, 25-10 defeat of Maine South Oct. 1. The Trevians improved to 11-6 overall and, at 4-1 in league play, remained tied with Evanston. New Trier will try to defend its title Friday and Saturday in the Discovery Tournament. The Trevs will host their own pool on Friday versus Byron, Niles North and Prospect, with the first and second place finishers advancing to the playoff round Saturday at Glenbrook North.
