The regular bi-weekly meeting of the village council was held last Tuesday night. President John D. Couffer had been called away unexpectedly, and Trustee Oscar W. Schmidt was elected president pro tem. There was no unfinished business before the board and very little new business. Communications were read regarding the condition in which the contractors of the intercepting sewer left the crossings on Sheridan road. According to the contract, this road should have been left in as good condition as before the sewer work was started but thus far the contractors have failed to "make good." The matter was referred to Attorney Jackson for investigation.
The board instructed Attorney Jackson to draft an ordinance changing the name of Columbus avenue to Walnut avenue.
Health Commissioner E. E. Moore made a verbal report in which he stated that the death rate in this village was about one-half of one percent. This, he said, is lower than it has been for several years. Commissioner Moore also stated that although the manure box ordinance was passed nearly two months ago, it was not being complied with. In fact, the village itself has failed to comply with the ordinance, but the board assured him that it would do so at once, and that Dr. Moore would be expected to enforce the ordinance in every part of the village.- Featured Link
