Rev. Meeks brought more than 1,500 students from Chicago to the Winnetka during the first of the three-day Chicago Public Schools boycott. 150 students applied for enrollment at New Trier and 1,100 applied to Sunset Ridge Elementary School. Meeks media event was to protest school funding inequalities in Illinois. Meeks is also a Democratic senator representing the 13th District. Those registered for school were asked to provide proof of residency in New Trier Township, one of the requirements of acceptance.
