The students' military instructin camp at Ludington, Michigan, this summer was a great success. OF the 112 students present, representing fifty-six universities and colleges, fifteen were from the University of Illinois--this number from the University of Illinois being more than from any othe two institutions represented.
The University of Illinois is peace-loving, yet it is endeavoring to perform well the military duty imposed upon it by the federal government in the land grant act of 1862.
Inasmuch as military training is required of freshmen and sophomores the cadet corps has grown so that one regiment organization is no longer sufficient. For a number of years the Illinois regiment has been the largest cadet regiment in the world. Beginning this week (Sept. 21-26) the new organization will constitute a brigade consisting of the first and second regiments of the University of Illinois. The first regiment will consist of three battalions commanded by a cadet colonel. The second regiment of two battalions will be commended [sic] by a cadet lieutenant colonel. Besides the two regiments of infantry, ther eare also a battery of artillery and a company of signal troops.
