- U.S. Olympic rower and Wilmette native Jamie Schroeder advanced to the final round of competition in Beijing Sunday but his four-man team ended with a fifth-place finish. Schroeder had been to the Olympic competitions in Athens four years ago. He is now completing a doctorate degree in physiology at Oxford University before going to medical school at Johns Hopkins in the fall.
