Non-native Gypsy moths, first sighted in Cook County last year, are laying eggs now through August, that will hatch in the spring. Male gypsy moths are brown with black markings. Females can't fly because of the weight of their eggs. They are typically white or cream colored. The moths are very dangerous to trees and foliage
