Description
Full Text

North shore motorists, who delight in testing the speed of their autos on the smooth Wilmette pavements in Kline street and West Railroad avenue, must exercise care. The summer motorcycle policeman of Wilmette, Mr. Peter J. Schaeffer, Jr., is on the job.
And what's more, Mr. Officer Schaeffer is demonstrating to the village trustees who named him to the job two weeks ago that his services are needed. The new "cop" has averaged an arrest each day, and each arrest has meant a fine for the speeder during the last week.
Justice of the Peace E. P. Dunshee is the tribunal before whom the violators of the motor vehicle law are taken. The fines in the half dozen or so cases heard by the justice have been from $5 to $10 each, varying of course according to the speed the motorist ws traveling, and other circumstances incident to the arrest. Thus far every speeder taken before Justice Dunshee has admitted his guilt. Members of the Swift familyl and also the Crane family of Lake Forest were among the contributors to the "speed fund" during the last week.
Kline street seems to be the popular speedway for the vilators. It is well paved with brick, and because the street is free from traffic at almost any hour of the day, automobile drivers favor this thoroughfare. Officer Schaeffer gives most of his attention to Kline street, althoughe occasionally he picks up a fast driver in West Railroad avenue.
