- Travelers are avoiding Europe and other expensive destinations because of the weak dollar, says Marlene Singer, co-owner of Suburban Travel. She's arranging more vacations to South America and mid-sized U.S. cities which are cheaper to visit. Comments by Nancy Vedder, manager of Northwest Passages in Wilmette said the company's most expensive and least expensive vacations are doing well, but tours through Europe are lagging. Northwest Passage's speciality are extreme adventure tours to the North Pole.
