- Next Tuesday is the twentieth anniversary of the shooting of Nicky Corwin, 8, on May 20, 1988, at Hubbard Woods Elementary School in Winnetka by Laurie Dann, age 30. She subsequently wounded several others before shooting herself. The incident incited schools everywhere to assess their own security measures. The tragedy remains vivid at the school. Comments by area school administrators and by Paul Timm of Lemont-based Reta Security. Winnetka District 36 is undergoing construction projects at Greeley Elementary School and Washburne Middle School, and in the process, are addressing security. Comments by Shelley Clark, business manager for the district.
