Wilmette has no municipal bathing beach, but that fact does not prevent bathing in the lake within the borders of the village. Nature has furnished the beach and children and young people naturally take advantage of her gift.
As a municipality Wilmette is perhaps not responsible in any way for the safety of persons using the beach here, but the residents of the village have felt the weight of a moral rsponsibility to the extent of buying a lung motor for use in drowning accidents and are actively forwarding a plan to equip the lake front with life preservers and other safety devices useful in lake emergencies. While the Physicians' club is immediately back of this public spirited and generous activity in Wilmette, the entire citizendhip has responded so generously as to earn a considerable share in the credit which is due the whole community- Featured Link
