- The following events are taking place at the Wilmette Junior High School:
Teacher Appreciation Week is next week.
Orientation for sixth grade students will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Orientation for parents of sixth-graders will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The spring band assembly for students during the day will be May 9.
The spring band concert at 7:30 p.m. May 12.
The Arts Week open house will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. May 13 and 15.
The Highcrest/WJHS spring choral concert will be at 7:30 p.m. May 14 at the junior high.
The spring orchestra concert will be at 7:30 p.m. May 15.
• The final Junior High general board meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the MEC Board Room. The guest speakers will be representatives from the Wilmette Youth Commission and Peer Services discussing "The State of our Wilmette Youth" and Officer Black of the Wilmette Police Department discussing "Parents Who Host Lose the Most." Lunch will follow the program.
• The school has a variety of open volunteer positions on the general board. For more information, visit www.wilmette39.org/wjhs/pto/index; the district calendar, or the junior high directory for a full list of names of people currently holding general board positions. Some positions will open up for the next year.
• People who make a donation to The District 39 Educational Foundation may have a certificate of appreciation created for the teacher(s) of their choice. • Junior high cafeteria volunteers are needed Monday through Friday in June. Anyone interested may contact Kaci Smith at kaci_smith@comcast.net.
• Youth Connection is looking for District 39 parents who'd like to volunteer as a board member, and help with the after school programs, community service projects, public relations, or fund raising. To help produce worthwhile extracurricular activities for the fifth through eighth grade students, contact Bill Perkins at bvmperkins@comcast.net.
• Youth Connection will return to The Good News Soup Kitchen from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. May 18. The group will be serving dinners and homemade cookies are welcome. Parents who want to partner with their junior high student and enjoy an afternoon helping others may contact Celia Nelson at celianelson@sbcglobal.net.
