A variety of open volunteer positions on the general board for the PTO for 2008-09. More information is available from Cheryl Smith.

• Families looking for a way to honor their teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week, can make a donation on the teacher's behalf to the District 39 Educational Foundation.

• Cafeteria volunteers are needed for Monday through Friday in June. More information is available from Kaci Smith

• Youth Connection is looking for District 39 parents who'd like to volunteer as board members for 2008-2010, and help with the after-school programs, community service projects, public relations or fund raising. More information is available from Bill Perkins

• Earth Week continues through Friday.

• Youth Connection and Wilmette Junior High School's spring play is "Seussical the Musical."

• Youth Connection will work at The Good News Soup Kitchen from 4:30-6:30 p.m. April 27 and May 18. More information is available from Celia Nelson

• The "State of Our Wilmette Youth/Parents Who Host Lose the Most" presentation is scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday in the Wilmette Junior High auditorium.

• The final general board meeting will be at 10:30 a.m., on May 6 in the MEC board room.
• Many events are planned for the end of the year for the eighth-graders. Once again, an end-of-the-year culminating activity will be sponsored: a class trip to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee. Additionally, at the promotion ceremony, students will graduate by homeroom. Eight students also will be honored, one boy and one girl from each team, with the Tri-Ship award. The Tri-Ship award goes to students who display the characteristics of scholarship, citizenship and fellowship in their daily lives. Finally, planning is under way for the eighth-grade party, iGrad2Nite.

• Next week marks the last week of spring clubs.
