New Trier musicians make a big splash in Big Easy

- 43 members of the New Trier Jazz Ensemble arrived in New Orleans Saturday during spring break. They brought a check for $75,000 to fund a Habitat for Humanity home, 400 musical instruments valued at $325,000 for Tipitina's Foundation, and 400 dresses and 200 tuxedos for high school students to wear during prom season in New Orleans. Comments by alumnus, Matt Horbal, a chaparone, and Jim Warrick, the director of the New Trier jazz program. The students will act as Habitat for Humanity volunteers and will play seven concerts in three days in addition to their volunteer work.
