The village of Wilmette will not have to pay Nicor Gas more than $4 million in damages caused by a ruptured water main in 2003. The rupture flooded Nicor gas mains and left customers without service. The judge dismissed the lawsuit saying the village's 1994 contract with Nicor protects it from liability.
