- Marie Gareis, 84, a 50-year resident of Wilmette, died March 14 at Midwest Hospice & Palliative CareCenter in Skokie.
Mrs. Gareis was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Germany to Peter and Magdalena (nee Ziegler) Hasenauer.
Survivors include three sons, Arthur of Connecticut, Fritz (Christina) of Wilmette and Joseph (Brenda) of Connecticut; and five grandchildren, Adam, Vanessa and Alex, Susan and Alan
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Adam.
She, along with her late husband, Adam, were the owners/proprietors for 25 years of Marie's Restaurant (currently Mrs. D's Diner) at Fourth Street and Linden Avenue in Wilmette.
