- Rodney E. Engelen, 80, of Wilmette and formerly Evanston, died Feb. 8 in Phoenix, Ariz
Mr. Engelen was born Rodney Earl Goehring Sept. 5, 1927, in Parkston, S.D., to Anita Goehring and Clarence Wiedman. Upon his mother's marriage to Horace Engelen, his name was changed to that of his adopted father. Subsequent to his mother's death in 1932, he was raised by his grandparents, Gus and Adeline Radke in Wessington Springs, S.D.
In 1951 Mr. Engelen married Audrey Hope Naas. She preceded him in death.
After the death of his first wife, he married Cynthia Lewis Sawyer and relocated to the Chicago area.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia; sons Derek (Jan) and Peter; daughter Heidi (Rick); grandchildren Rachel, Kurt, Erin, Leigh and Jeffrey; step-daughters Dianne Lipkin and Cindy Love; a step-son, Tom Sawyer; and many friends.
