- The Wilmette Exchange State Bank was a pioneer in Wilmette supporting homeownership. Mr. S. A. Wheelock is the bank's president and a resident of Wilmette for more than thirty years. The vice-president is Mr. Phillip Hoffman. Mr. John H. Schaefer, the Cashier, was born in what is now Wilmette. The Assistant Cashier, Mr. W. D. Leary, was born in Evanston near Wilmette's south border. Asahel W. Gage is the secretary and a practicing attorney. He also was born and lives in Wilmette. The bank directors are W. W. Buchanan, Asahel W. Gage, B. F. Lewis, John H. Schaefer, J. Alden Sears, C. N. Stevens, Judson F. Stone, Henry Taylor, Jr., Charles E. Ware, S. A. Wheelock
