- Mike Small became the first golfer to capture three straight Illinois Open titles at the tournament August 8. Local competitors sto make the abbreviated cut included Connie De Mattia of GOlf, Eric Meierdierks of WIlmette, Jay Dempsey of Glencoe, Phil Arouca of Wilmete and Dolph Roder of Chicago. Winnetka pro Chris Happ of Chicago finsihed 71st while amateur Rory Kenny of GLenviw was 75th. Michael Stone of Glenview took 82nd and Tom Petric of Wilmette finished 84th.
