Notes
For 90 minutes foundering boaters on Sunday could not draw the attention of the U.S. Coast Guard, Wilmette Park District employees or people on shore. One of the boaters attempted to swim to shore but did not succeed. When the boaters finally managed to get to shore, a bystander, a seasoned sailor, dumped the water out of the boat and headed out to get the swimmer. Terry Porter of the Park district will look into the incident to see if district personnel had acted properly, and if any changes in methods or policies are needed.
