- Biographical sketch of John Fairfield Porter, born in Winnetka 100 years ago on June 10. His father was James Foster Porter. His mother was Ruth Furness, related to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and T. S. Eliot. The family home still stands at 1085 Sheridan Road. Tthe artists biographer is Justin Spring, who wrote a book about the artist in 2000, "Fairfield Porter: A life in art"
