- The Olssons say they need a generator as a backup to the battery backup for their sump pumps. Their house sits below the water table, making it possible for the two backup batteries to be insufficient to power the pumps for more than a few hours in heavy rain. The village's noise code forbid noise above 45 decibels in a residential area. The generator's motors would create a noise of 68 decibels. Noisy air conditioners which also exceed the legal decibel level are possible in Wilmette because a previous board made an exception for them years ago. Trustee Ted McKenna feels the trustees should consider legalizing the generators.
