Two-hundred residents of Wilmette are suffering with Spanish Influenza. OF the 1,300 children in the public schools, 264 were reported as away from their classes this week. Eighty children of the Village are infected with the epidemic. Sixty of that number are children of school age and 20 under school age. That is the report of Dr. E. E. Moore, Health Commissioner, made public after a thorough canvass of the Village during the week ending September 25.
Kenilworth Schools Closed
The spread of the epidemic has necessitated the closing of the Kenilworth schools until Monday, September 29 for purposes of fumigation, according to Dr. Moore. Of approximately 185 children in the Kenilworth school 73 were reported absent from their classes this week with Spanish Influenza.
At New Trier high school Dr. Moore and his assistants discovered 140 cases of Spanish Influenza among the 800 students. No deaths as a result of the epidemic have been reported in Wilmette or Kenilworth.
Keep Children in Schools
The High school and the Wilmette public schools will not be closed, it was decided by the Health department, since the epidemic can be more effectively combated in the schools than when the pupils are in their homs. This method of fighting the disease has been decided upon by the Health Commissioners throughout the state and is already proving successful.
Ban on Bluejacket Parties
The Health department has recommended that all places of amusement and entertainment for the men at the Great Lakes Naval training station, Fort Sheridan and other army posts and camps be closed until further notice. Also that children of the Village be kept from public places and assemblies as a safeguard against possible exposure to the epidemic. Whole-hearted cooperation of evey resident of the Village is necessary, health officials assert to render efficient the "drive" against the spreading epidemic.
In aiding the health authorities the following precations should be heeded by every resident of the Village.
1. Be careful about exposing children to known cases of Spanish Influenza.
2. All children suffering with Spanish Influenza should be confined to their rooms.
3. All children showing symptoms of the epidemic should be SENT HOME IMMEDIATELY and QUARANTINED>- Featured Link
