- Mrs. H. B. Gates, chairman of Soldier Aid Committee, presents July 1918 Statement.
Soldier's Aid division now has on the Honor Roll 297 blue stars and 2 gold stars. The second gold star stands for the name of Allyn Anderson who died from wounds June 24, 1918. On the list of wounded are Roger Weld and Chester Ambler. Roger Weld was gassed in March. Chester Ambler was reported as seriously wounded on July 15.
A second meeting of the Nearest of Kin of Wilmette men in service was held July 12 and a new set of by-laws adopted making it "The Home Folks Auxiliary" to the Wilmete Guard. Temporary officers were elected. Mr. Ira Jones offered his resignation because of frequent absences from town, and Mrs. Jones was elected in his place as secretary-treasurer.
The Committee on War Camp Community Service under the War Recreation Board is fully organized. Mrs. O.G. Corn is chairman of the hostess committee. Mrs. Marshall Doty, chaor of program committee. Mrs. J. B. Greiner, chair supper committee. Mrs. Ira Jones chair auto committee.
The two things the men are most eager and grateful for are automobile rides and swimming. The committee has purchased 38 bathing suits and some towels, in charge of Mrs. Gates, who gives them out to the men who are registered at the club. On July 27 the Country club offered the use of the house for a dance. The Woman's Club offered their club house for Saturday evenings in August. Sunday afternoons are growing in popularity.
