- New draftees presented with a comfort kit, Sweater, helmet and pair of socks by the north shore war organizations as they departed for Camp Grant in Rockford. Organizations such as the Woman's Committee of the Wilmette Home Guard in Wilmette, Navy Auxiliary of the Red Cross in Winnetka, Woman's Division of the Glencoe War Emergency Union supplied the kits and knitted articles. George J. Pope, chairman of the local exemption board, was in charge of the men assisted by other board members, Fred A. Smith, Dr. Rufus R. Stolp. Description of the first day at camp.
